L'Institut de Monde Arabe

The Arab World Institute is an important part of French culture because of the great and growing number of Arabic persons in Paris. The building stands as a symbol for partnership, and boasts a more modern technology-influenced architecture.

The Institute was completed in 1987 and incorporates traditional Arab designs into the modern scheme. One side is entirely made up of diaphragms- 240 of them, which open and close based on the sun, to be exact. This design lets enough natural light into the building to cut back on artificial lighting, but does not damage any of the artwork featured in exhibits.

The rooftop stands nine stories high, and offers an amazing view of Paris, as well as a Moroccan restaurant and tea room. Surprisingly, the prices at the restaurant are pretty modest, but I'll be going back for the free view!
