Normandie: Omaha Beach

When German troops stationed in Normandy were attacked on June 6, 1944, the Allied forces worked together to carry out one of the most successful ambushes of World War II. American, Canadian, and British troops invaded a long stretch of Normany Beach. Among the areas attacked were: Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha, and Utah Beaches. Our second visit of the day took us to Omaha Beach, where it was very windy and cold. When you first walk down towards the beach, you see rich green hills and beautiful pathways lined with flowers, that it doesn't seem like something so brutal could take place there. It was eerie to think that we were walking around a beach where such a gruesome battle took place not even 70 years ago.
